Growing Space on Exposed Coastal Site in Co. Down

The client got in touch after their previous kit dome failed in a storm, leaving them frustrated with both the quality and longevity of what had been a significant investment. They were looking for a complete step up — something solid, well-built, and designed to handle an exposed coastal environment — but just as importantly, a structure that would feel considered, refined, and visually striking in their garden. The brief was to deliver a premium, long-lasting growing space that combined durability with a high-end finish.

We replaced the failed structure with a 4.5m Cupola Dome, designed and built to perform in exposed coastal conditions. The dome was constructed using a robust timber frame and fully glazed in toughened safety glass, providing strength, longevity, and year-round usability.

A raised timber base with a solid internal floor was installed to create a stable, dry, and comfortable foundation, while integrated raised planters were incorporated to maximise the growing potential of the space. The overall design balances durability with a clean, refined finish — delivering a high-quality greenhouse environment that is both practical and visually striking within its setting.
